I admit that I am a sucker for Cameron Crowe’s Jerry Maguire. It may not be high brow cinema but I did enjoy the movie very much. It had, to my mind, the perfect blend of comedy and romance that called to me. I don’t like sappy movies but Jerry Maguire has just the right amount of sap to keep me entertained.

Jerry Maguire became very famous for two memorable lines – “You complete me” and “show me the money!” But for me, the line that I most often quote from the movie was the last line in the movie as said by Maguire’s former boss – “In life, I’ve failed as much as I’ve succeeded. But I love my life and I have my wife. I wish you my kind of success.”

“Open the Pod Bay doors”, is a common stay of space fiction movies. This was the era of space discovery and innovation in the movies was at its highest. Imagine depicting how a space ship might look like for inter-planetary travel and having it rotate to create artificial gravity. Imagine foreseeing fiber-channel circuits with light instead of current carrying electronic signals (the brains of the computer HAL which was being pulled out to prevent him from killing all of his human crew). The movie is one of the greatest space movies of all times and the line along with it, is held as one of the most memorable lines in movie history.

“Gentlemen, You can’t fight in here, this is the war room” was a line from the movie that was timed for release during the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, it was moved for release at a later date due to the apparent feelings people had about politics at the time. A Black Comedy that makes fun of the utter serious chain of events (any of which can become true) that can lead to the end of the world with all sides firing their Nukes in defense of the other. The Movie has a crazy general of an air force base who orders an attack on Russia by B-52 bombers carrying nuclear devices citing the apparent sabotage of Russian spies of the American lifestyle, injecting fluoride into the water system that he blames for his impotence. The aim was o lighten the mood of the ever tensioned times of the Cold War where everybody was at risk at the press of a button.

“Listen to them, Children of the Night. What music they make”, was spoken by one of film’s most devious and scariest characters, the representation of Count Vlad, who is most often called as the true Count Dracula due to his ruthlessness towards his enemies. Most of the other facts have been filled in by lore and fiction writers but the movie has lived on in spite being first made into film in the 1930′s. The legend of Dracula has lived and died along with the characters of the film only to be re-incarnated in newer versions. The newest one, Bram Stoker’s Dracula came out in 1992 in the US which again brought back to life the blood sucking villain who is Count Dracula.

Everybody knows the horror film that has been turned into all sorts of characters in comics and cartoon series. The movie has an eccentric budding doctor obsessed with the newly discovered power, electricity which in his mind is the key to the creation of life. His obsession turns morbid when he decides to bring back to life a man whose body is made up of parts from several corpses he dug up from graves. His experiment takes toll on his life, publicly and personally. He is ridiculed by fellow doctors and scientists as a lunatic which drives him further down the road with his morbid experiment. Upon getting his creation to breathe to life, he exclaims the famous words, “It’s alive!!! It’s Alive”. His creation turns on people and kills everybody in sight ending the experiment with his creator ending his life.

The hit is about the all women baseball league that was cooked up as a publicity stunt for the men fighting in the Second World War. The story begins with two sisters who both joined the All American Pro Girls Baseball League. When only one was selected, she refused to join if her sister wasn’t allowed to join too. The league was allowed for all the men were away and there was not much happening back home in the name of the great sport. The movie is a concoction of an all star cast with Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan, an alcoholic and the worst coach on the league. The famous line was spoken by Hank’s character during a game when they were down he tells one of the girls, Evelyn in frustration after she starts crying her eyes out, “Are you crying? Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There’s no crying, there’s no crying in Baseball!!!”. The cast is made up of Geena Davis, Madonna, Lori Petty, Rosie O’Donnell and many more memorable women.

The film which reflects the days of the mob who ruled major cities has two struggling musicians who just happened to be witnesses to the St. Valentines Massacre. Upon realizing what they have just witnessed, they clamor to find a way to get out of the city without the mob seeing them for they were being hunted down. Their only escape as they found it was to join an all female band where they dress up as girls. In the process one member of the band falls in love with one of the women (who were dressed as women) and proposes to him, her, HIM. The man blurts out “Well, nobody’s perfect” as he’s told his love interest isn’t a lady but a man just like himself. The movie features Marilyn Monroe as Sugar a member of the all female band, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon played the two musicians. They said that in order to convince themselves that they looked female enough for the film, they went into women’s dressing rooms to use the mirrors and when none of the women inside reacted, they assured themselves they indeed looked the part.

Who would forget the movie “Jaws”, which has instilled fear of the sea in many people from that generation. The effect of the movie on the true apex predator of the seas, the shark, has been so profound that all treated them as villains and man-eaters. Even the producers and most of those involved in the movie’s production and making have reversed and felt guilty of the impact the movie had on the general population. They have released many feature films and even taken part in conservation efforts to reverse the negative impact the movies have had on the natural ecology of the sea. The size and ferociousness were truly boated to more than life proportions that no real shark exists. The Great white is now almost an endangered species and requires the respect of all mankind as all of God’s creatures deserve.
