Comedy, everybody loves comedy

Yes, even the laugh factories have their share of famous and interesting quotes like “Yeah Baby” and “Oh Behave!”, from Austin Powers. Forrest Gump produced ” Mama always said life is like a box of chocolates…”, in the film with the same name as the character played by Tom Hanks became a sort of expression for an innocent look at life from the view of a special person. A stint of comedy in the action thriller film Airplane has the quick-witted stewardess going on the intercom saying, ‘There’s no reason to be alarmed, and we hope you enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone here who knows how to fly a plane????”. Ace Ventura left us with, “If I’m not back in five minutes..Wait a little bit longer!!!”. Funny and hilarious they may be they do serve a purpose, to break the ice in an already hilarious film making it even more hilarious sending you crunching your stomach as it aches from laughing.
When Harry Met Sally
October 21st, 2009
The 1989 film directed by Rob Reiner was a comedy romance drama that tells the story of two friends who make love sleep together. The question is will they feel the same way when they wake up? The movie stars Billy Crystal who plays Harry and Meg Ryan who plays Sally. The two friends have known each other for a long time and they have been steering away from sex due to fear of it breaking-up their long standing friendship. The cliché “I’ll be having what she’s having” comes when the two friends were at dinner discussing relationships when Sally says orgasms can be faked which she gladly demonstrates, an elderly lady(who was actually the director’s mother) upon witnessing the scene says the memorable quote.
Disney vs. Pixar on Wall-E
August 16th, 2008

The outline for Wall-E looks somewhat like this: “Disney and Pixar join forces for this computer-animated tale about a wide-eyed robot that travels to the deepest reaches of outer space in search of a newfound friend.” The year is 2700, and planet Earth has long been uninhabitable. For hundreds of years, WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) has been taking out the trash, and collecting precious knick-knacks in order to stave off the monotony of his dreary routine. Little does WALL-E realize that he has recently stumbled onto a secret that could save planet Earth, and once again make the ravaged planet safe for all humanity. When highly advanced search robot EVE makes friends with WALL-E and realizes the value of his remarkable discovery, she excitedly races back to let the humans know that there’s hope for their home planet after all. But after centuries alone in the world, WALL-E can’t stand the thought of losing the only friend he’s ever known, and eagerly follows her into the deepest reaches of space on the adventure of a lifetime. Along the way, the friendly trash-collecting robot who has always known what he was made for gradually begins to understand what he was meant for.
This is the most excellent film of 2008 so far, and if Wall-E doesn’t get listed for Best Picture (not just the cheap cop-out Best Animated Picture) then I’m going to throw a total fit. This is a beautiful, smart, touching, hilarious and damn cute movie that I’m going to see at least 4 more times in the theatre. It is the best film Pixar has ever made in my opinion… and the most complete one too. I appreciated this movie.
The Terminal, 2004
August 1st, 2008
Viktor Navorski: I’ve been waiting my whole life.
A movie about a man who was able to leave his country just a few hours before it went into war. Lucky? Not really. He has been held in at a terminal in the United States, not able to go out of its doors. Stuck for days and days inside the terminal, it has become his home, and the people who work and “live” there have become his friends. Tom Hanks shows remarkable and excellent acting (as always) as he does a film with a somewhat, distinct similarity with Forrest Gump. The simple storyline and plot holds much deeper meaning and would definitely bring you to happy tears towards the end.
Serendipity, 2001
July 30th, 2008

You don’t just have the most incredible night of your life with a perfect stranger and leave it up to chance, do you?
Two total and complete strangers meet at the most unexpected time, moment and the wheels of fate start running from that point on. In the movie, Kate Beckinsale tries with all her might to push John Cusack away from her, thinking that if they were really meant to be, fate would find a way to get them together. Fate comes back each time, making them surer than ever that they really are destined to be with each other.
A very heart-warming movie, Serendipity will find its way into your heart and make you believe, that anything is possible if you let go of everything and just let it happen to you.
Jerry Maguire, 1996
May 25th, 2008
There is a sensitivity thing that some people have. I don’t have it. I don’t cry at movies, I don’t gush over babies, I don’t buy Christmas presents 5 months early, and I DON’T tell the guy who just ruined both our lives, ‘Oh, poor baby.’ But I do love you.
If you’re able to grab a copy of this film, you will see a catchy phrase out front – “Everybody loved him… everybody disappeared.” Tom Cruise plays Jerry Maguire, a sports agent whose so-called perfect world changes as he realizes he’d been doing things the wrong way. His philosophy changed, and so did everyone. Everyone who loved him left him. The very few who stuck with him (Renee Zellweger as Dorothy Boyd and Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Rod Tidwell) proved to be loyal and were Jerry’s saving grace. Jerry was able to stop doing what he’d always been doing and made a difference for himself and for the only athlete who stayed with him, Tidwell. A truly inspiring story, Jerry Maguire will captivate you and leave you talking about it for days.
My Best Friend’s Wedding, 1997
May 18th, 2008

“If you love someone, you’ve gotta tell him. Otherwise, the moment just… passes you by.”
Another blockbuster hit starring Julia Roberts, she co-stars this light romantic comedy with dashing actor Dermot Mulroney. Two best friends – one about to get married, the other one hopelessly in love with the one about to get married. The hopelessly-in-love best friend tries to win him and goes through ups and downs just to do this.
Share the emotional rollercoaster that someone who desperately wants someone to herself goes through in this film. A movie of wit, humor and love, My Best Friend’s Wedding will surely captivate your heart.
As Good As It Gets, 1997
May 5th, 2008
Never, never, interrupt me, okay? Not if there’s a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there’s a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you’re going to faint. Even then, don’t come knocking. Or, if it’s election night, and you’re excited and you wanna celebrate because some fudge packer that you date has been elected the first queer president of the United States and he’s going to have you down to Camp David, and you want someone to share the moment with. Even then, don’t knock. Not on this door. Not for ANY reason. Do you get me, sweetheart?
A movie unlike any other, As Good As It Gets features an impressive cast with names like Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt, Greg Kinnear, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Skeet Ulrich and Shirley Knight. Winner of two Oscars, other 23 awards and 25 nominations, this movie is considered the first of its kind. Directed by James L. Brooks, the story revolves around 3 major characters, Melvin, Simon and Carol. The three forge a surprising friendship, what with all their differences and personal issues.
A must-see movie, As Good As It Gets will make you cry, empathize, and feel that life certainly only gets better.
Ghostbusters (1984)
April 29th, 2008
“We Came, We saw, We kicked Ass!”, exclaimed by the ever proud Peter Venkman who’s role was supposed to be played by James Belushi till his untimely death. The ghost that they called “Slimer” was called onion head by the cast and was referred to by Dan Akroyd as the ghost of Belushi on set. The movie is one of the best comedy films of all time that children the world over enjoyed. The publicity for the film even had a dedicated phone line that was put up to receive the calls of fans that were answered by a recording of two of the films cast saying they were out on a call busting ghosts. Followed by a sequel, that re-united the team that had them deal with a sea of slime that was flowing under New York and causing many un-earthly apparitions that signifies the coming of a mythical dark lord.
Indiana Jones in the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
April 17th, 2008
“Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes”, spoken by Indiana Jones as he falls into the Well of Souls which is said to hold the Ark of the Covenant, the mythical relic which is said to hold the Ten Commandments that was lost in time. The fear was true for Harrison Ford did indeed fear snakes (though some of them were merely rubber hoses cut and made to look like snakes). The one he faced as he fell was a true cobra and a pane of glass was the only thing protecting the nervous actor as he did his lines. The cobra did indeed sprayed some venom on the glass much to the delight of Ford that that piece of glass was there.
