- A letter for Red – Andy Dufresne: Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.
- In another scene, talking to Red – Andy Dufresne: She was beautiful. God I loved her. I just didn’t know how to show it, that’s all. I killed her, Red. I didn’t pull the trigger, but I drove her away. And
that’s why she died, because of me.
Shawshank Redemption is the touching story of Andy Dufresne, a New England banker wrongfully accused of killing his wife and his wife’s lover. He was incarcerated. It was in prison that he became friends with an unlikely fellow named Red. Being an introvert did not win him so many friends. But the best in him came out through time and he used his intelligence in encouraging other people to HOPE as this was the only means of survival in this wild world.
Disney vs. Pixar on Wall-E

The outline for Wall-E looks somewhat like this: “Disney and Pixar join forces for this computer-animated tale about a wide-eyed robot that travels to the deepest reaches of outer space in search of a newfound friend.” The year is 2700, and planet Earth has long been uninhabitable. For hundreds of years, WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) has been taking out the trash, and collecting precious knick-knacks in order to stave off the monotony of his dreary routine. Little does WALL-E realize that he has recently stumbled onto a secret that could save planet Earth, and once again make the ravaged planet safe for all humanity. When highly advanced search robot EVE makes friends with WALL-E and realizes the value of his remarkable discovery, she excitedly races back to let the humans know that there’s hope for their home planet after all. But after centuries alone in the world, WALL-E can’t stand the thought of losing the only friend he’s ever known, and eagerly follows her into the deepest reaches of space on the adventure of a lifetime. Along the way, the friendly trash-collecting robot who has always known what he was made for gradually begins to understand what he was meant for.
This is the most excellent film of 2008 so far, and if Wall-E doesn’t get listed for Best Picture (not just the cheap cop-out Best Animated Picture) then I’m going to throw a total fit. This is a beautiful, smart, touching, hilarious and damn cute movie that I’m going to see at least 4 more times in the theatre. It is the best film Pixar has ever made in my opinion… and the most complete one too. I appreciated this movie.
Titanic (1997)
April 9th, 2008
“I’m King of the world”, was the lines spoken by Leonardo de Caprio as he stands on the bow of the Titanic. One of the highlights of the movie, where a pauper meets the woman of her dreams who just happens to be out of his reach for she is with one of the richest and most arrogant men on board and is bound to be his bride. The doomed Titanic was the most expensive films of all time (estimated to $200,000,000) but overcame that by being a blockbuster in theaters worldwide. The inclusion of footage film of the actual ship below the seas were taken by specially built IMAX cameras that had to be engineered to withstand 400 times the pressure of the atmosphere at sea level. The film was initially conceived to be one of two fictional characters over which the whole film was to revolve around. After the script was finished, the director was stunned to find out that there was a real Jack Dawson who was on board the Titanic that fateful night that it sank and took many lives.
Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
February 25th, 2008
“We Rob Banks”, is synonymous with the famous bank bobbing couple that was Bonnie and Clyde, they’re robbing spree had authorities hot on their trail as they lived life on the edge. The Notorious Barrow’s Gang which Bonnie and Clyde were part of had an actual member on the set when it was being shot. That same member was the one who talked to Gene Hackman asking him if he would have worn such a hat if he were in the character. He replied no, the guy then introduces himself as that Barrow’s gang member. There were also some romanticized scenes such as the fatal ending for Bonnie was already disfigured by a car crash a year back leaving her with severe burns to her legs that made it difficult to walk. In real life, she was either carried or helped by Clyde when on their many heists.
